19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hard courts

A revitalized the Russian player won his maiden championship for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has endured a torrid season, managing just one match at the Grand Slams and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.

The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in particular - resulted in him falling of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with former mentor Cervara.

Currently training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has gradually progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought competitive win over opponent Moutet.

This represents the player's initial championship following the Rome competition and first on a hard surface since that period of the previous year.

Victory also indicates Medvedev has secured 21 championships at 21 distinct competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters together, so to get a championship is particularly special," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six championship matches, including in that event in the past months.

His defensive play style and frequent reactions on the tennis court had caused observers to question if his ability to perform at the top level was over.

But the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and perform aggressively, backed up by an enhanced service.

The champion came back from a break down in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, taking 4 of the concluding five points to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged service breaks in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his initial professional championship, gained dominance to create a decider.

Moutet saved four early chances in a close third set before the champion won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, he secured the title with a rally at the net area, with his opponent unable to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
